WASHINGTON -the longtime lover of the Capitol Police officer who died following an attack on Jan. 6 attack filed a lawsuit against the former president Donald J. Trump and two Capitol protesters on Thursday, asserting the death of his partner was an "direct and foreseeable consequence" of their involvement in the violence of the mob the day of the attack.
The lawsuit, filed in Federal District Court for the District of Columbia just prior to the anniversary of that attack is seeking at least 10 million dollars in damages of the plaintiff. Trump and two men who are accused of attacking the officer, Brian D. Sicknick who was sprayed with chemical in the month of Jan. 6 George Tanios and Julian Elie Khater. The suit was filed by Mr. Khater pleaded guilty in the assault. the other defendant, Mr. Tanios pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges.
"The horrific events of Jan. 6, 2021, including Officer Sicknick's tragic, wrongful death, were a direct and foreseeable consequence of the defendants' unlawful actions," the lawsuit said and added the claim that "the defendants are responsible for the injury and destruction that followed."
Officer Sicknick passed away the next day following the attack, however, his death was ruled out by the Washington Medical Examiner concluded that the cause was natural causes which included several strokes, which took place within hours after the mob's confrontationand prosecutors did not shy away from connecting his death to the incident. The medical examiner declared the "all that transpired played a role in his condition," and the Capitol Police consider his death to be a "line of duty" fatality.
In her suit Sandra Garza, who as Officer Sicknick's longtime companion is also a representative for the estate of his deceased partner and represented his estate, painted the character of Mr. Trump as culpable both generally for the violence of January. 6 and more specifically for the death of Officer Sicknick. The suit referenced the findings that were made by the House committee which investigated incident on Jan. 6 incident, and stated it was the committee that "made a number of criminal referrals" against Mr. Trump "based on its finding of 'sufficient evidence of one or more potential violations,'" which included encouraging an rebellion.
He. Trump is facing an assortment of civil lawsuits arguing that he's accountable for significant financial losses for his part in the circumstances surrounding the attack on Jan. 6, attack. A federal judge on February granted three civil lawsuits on behalf of the president. Trump to move forward. The lawsuit has been now going through an appeal.
Officer Sicknick Officer Sicknick is the only police officer in the Capitol on Jan. 6 who passed away within the last year following the attack. Four other officersthey were Jeffrey Smith, Howard S. Liebengood, Gunther Hashida and Kyle DeFreytag -- were killed in suicide.
