Chaos in House Rolls On: ‘I’m Never Getting Sworn In, Am I?’
The mood was different from Tuesday, when there was a joyful cacophony of families gathering for the opening of the 118th Congress. Members of Congress had loved family members sitting in the gallery above the House floor, or had their children with them eagerly awaiting the swearing-in ceremony and the giddy photos of the event.

The gallery's families decreased on Wednesday, as it was clear that there would be no oath to be administered, and there would not be any photos with the speaker, whoever they are -- anytime in the near future.

However, it was clear that the House floor was a tense place. Mr. Gaetz engaged in lively discussions during the time Democrats and Republicans shouted at each other during their brisk nominating speeches. The decision to adjourn the evening turned into screaming.

Some were able to profit from the fracas. The newly elected Representative George Santos, the incoming Republican from New York who was plagued by lies about his past was confronted with reporters Tuesday. He spent a lot of the day within the House chamber by himself. However, as the attention began to shift to him during Wednesday's session, he began to talk more frequently to his coworkers. On Thursday, he had been being seated with several members of Mr. Gaetz's associates who seemed to be pleased to have him join the family.

Another benefit was C-SPAN. There is no leader of the House C-SPAN has had no restrictions on what their cameras can show. Instead of the typical large-format images, C-SPAN captured lawmakers negotiating with each other, as well as the annoyance and resentment that usually accompany it.

However, by the time Thursday afternoon arrived discussions with both the Republican leadership and rebels were mostly held to closed-doors, which meant there was less activity in the sitting room. There were a few minor details that were notable in the debate: Rep. Lauren Underwood, an Illinois Democrat was back from a break on the eighth vote and was puzzled that there was a new candidate for the seat she'd been always occupied for several weeks. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeksfrom Iowa Republican was the one to bring an NFL helmet in gold onto the ballot.

Others tried to make the voting more interesting. They tried to make the votes more interesting. Gaetz broke from precedent by choosing the president of the past, Donald Trump. The representative Lauren Boebert, the Colorado Republican who is among the most vocal critics to the president. McCarthy, teased the audience in the eighth vote she changed her vote to Kevin Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma.
